As a local photographer in Wooster, Ohio, some of my favorite sessions are when I get to shoot maternity photography. I love to capture photos of moms to be with their baby bumps and make them feel absolutely stunning during this fleeting time. I have so many women ask me if it’s worth it to do a maternity shoot, and the answer is an absolute yes! If you are on the fence on whether or not to book a professional maternity session, here are some reasons why this special time is worth capturing.
1. You’ll want to highlight and remember that pregnancy glow.
A maternity photo session is a great way to remember your cute baby bump and pregnancy glow. We’ve all taken selfies in the full length mirror at work, but you deserve to have your pregnant belly showcased in a more elegant way! I have women who want cozy and casual sessions, and I have some who want a more elevated look! Either vibe is a great excuse to pamper yourself as you anticipate your baby’s arrival! 2. You’ll want to document your family before it grows.
A new baby is the best gift you can give your family, but your family will never look the same after your baby is born! Whether you’re about to be a first time mom or if this is your second pregnancy (or third or fourth or fifth), you will have family photos that reflect this current (and fleeting) phase of your life. I love to document the incredible bond a mom and her partner share with her baby bump as they wait for their first baby, and it’s even more fun to show the unique experience young children have with their soon to be sibling! Not only is a maternity photo shoot for mom and baby, but it is perfect for the entire family.
3. They’re perfect to pass on to future generations.
It’s always wild to think about how your son or daughter never sees you pregnant with them. When you decide on a maternity photo session, you’ll have pregnancy photos that are flattering, and even worth displaying! I always think of the scene in the movie, The Family Stone, where all the kids are given the picture of their mom pregnant with one of the daughters, and it brings tears to my eyes every single time. Maternity portraits are also a perfect addition to your child’s baby book or nursery as a memento of that special time between the two of you.
Your future self will thank you if you decide to capture part of your pregnancy journey with professional maternity photos! They are a beautiful way to remember these fleeting moments, and you’ll be able to look back after your baby is here and get a reminder of those feelings you felt during your pregnancy! The best time to take maternity photos is between 28-34 weeks.
