Your Guide to the Best Summer Things to Do in Wooster

Summer in Wooster, Ohio is by far my favorite time of year. I love when the days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and everything is bursting with color. I can catch lightning bugs with my kids at night, pick fresh veggies from the garden for dinner, and soak up the sun all day long. If you’re also in the Wooster area and looking for the best things to do this summer other than pools and splash pads, here is a list of my favorites:

The Farmers’ Market

I adore seeing so many local farmers at the farmers’ market in historic downtown Wooster. It takes place from the middle of May to the first weekend in October on Saturday mornings. You can grab a sweet treat or a cup of coffee as you browse local fresh produce, homemade personal care products, mushrooms, and fresh baked goods, all while listening to live music! While you’re downtown, you can also check out the unique shops and cozy cafes. If you love to support local farmers but can’t make the farmers’ market on Saturday mornings, Local Roots Market is a grocery store in the downtown area that sells all local products!

Fourth of July Fireworks

Wooster has one of the best firework events in Northeast Ohio. They always host them on July 4th, and they have food trucks and many family-friendly activities. The event takes place on the soccer complex by the high school.

Family Pictures

As a photographer, I fully recommend taking family pictures in the summer. I have a handful of locations I would recommend, but my absolute favorite place is Secrest Arboretum! As I mentioned above, they have gorgeous gardens, but they also have open meadows that are beautiful for sunset pictures. I also love being creative and capturing families’ fond memories! Last summer, I even did a poolside family shoot at their home, and it was so much fun! You can see the blog of that shoot here.

Secrest Arboretum

Secrest Arboretum is one of Wooster’s hidden gems at ATI, which is part of THE Ohio State University. This botanical garden is bursting with beauty during the summer months, and it’s the perfect place to go for a picnic or an evening walk on their paved walking paths. They also have a playset for your kiddos! It is a free arboretum, so it’s a great spot to make a part of your family’s summer routine.

Bloom Market

Yellow Shovel Floral is a local flower farm that is a short drive from Wooster in Burbank, Ohio, and they host one of my favorite summer festivals, Bloom Market, every August. They have vendors from all over Northeastern Ohio set up on their farm, including clothing boutiques, homemade personal care products, food trucks, coffee and more! You can grab some delicious food or a cup of coffee all while picking your own flower bouquet! Their flowers are absolutely stunning, so even if you can’t make it to Bloom Market, their U-Pick events are definitely worth the trip as well!

As you can see, Wooster has so much more to offer than just being a college town. There are many special events that get you out to enjoy the warm weather!
