Are you looking for a photographer, but aren’t sure what to expect after inquiring? Let’s find out!
Gone are the days of walking in to JC Penny for a same day photo shoot. Photographers are building amazing businesses with creative freedom, unique client experiences, and timeless images of family memories. Booking a photographer should be a custom experience just as special as the family you are!
What to Consider When Booking a Photographer
If you’re ready to book a professional photographer, here are a few things to consider:
Are they a registered business within in my state?
Do they carry business or liability insurance?
Do they have a contract?
Is their work consistent?
What is included in the package I’m interested in?
Are they providing a print release?
Do the images they’re showcasing evoke the moments I hope to capture in my session?
Once you find a photographer that checks all the boxes, it’s time to book!
Booking a Photographer
After your initial inquiry with me (which is best done through my website form), we will go through these steps together:
Confirm Availability and Vision
I will respond or email you back confirming my availability and whether I feel we will be a good fit to work together. I never take on a session that I don’t think my work will fit the client’s vision, but I’m happy to refer you to someone who can!
Make It Official
Next, I’ll collect your retainer payment, reserve your date, and have you sign my contract. Contracts are not meant to “trap you in,” but rather keep us both protected if anything were needed in court (which I really hope never happens)! It also gives you cut and dry information on what to expect from me and the services I offer.
Questionnaire
Completing the client questionnaire: This is a requirement for all of my sessions because who wants to meet a stranger in a field with absolutely no idea about them or what they want.. not me ** The questionnaire is CRUCIAL in building the vision for your session. I need to know what is important to you and how you envision your final images to look.
Styling
This is the best part that happens before your session 🙂 Tell me your sizes and I can build the whole wardrobe or we can work together to create the perfect look! I scour tons of websites and local boutiques to create unique looks that represent the personality of your family.
Location
This goes right along with styling. Finalizing the location (if not already chosen), to make sure we have a location that is safe for your family while also being a little adventure. I work hard to find unique areas for my clients (even though Ohio is a little less stunning as Hawaii or Colorado).
Then what?
All that’s left after that is to have the best time at your session! 🙂 My goal is for every session to be as unique as the family I’m documenting. This starts with having a booking process with multiple points of communication and establishing a clear vision for the session.
I can’t wait to see what we create together!
