Father’s Day Gifts and Activities

Are you struggling to find the perfect gift for Father’s Day? Most men don’t need big, extravagant gifts to make them feel appreciated. Sometimes just a few hours doing their favorite activity or some time with family is all they need. Check out this list of ideas to get some inspiration for Father’s Day gifts and activities!

For the Nature Loving Dad

Hiking

Pick a new place for a hike! Some of my favorite places to hike are at State and National Parks, but you can also find good spots by looking for your city’s local parks or surrounding nature preserves. Not only is a hike good for health, but also creates quality family time.

A Day on the Lake

I don’t know many men that don’t like having a cold drink while relaxing on a boat! Many lakes with a marina rent out boats and pontoons by the hour if you don’t have your own. Pack a lunch and maybe some fishing poles and Dad will have a great time!

Some local lakes that a great for boating:

Tappan Lake
Pleasant Hill Lake
Lake Erie
Portgage Lakes
Indian Lake State Park

For the Food Motivated Dad

This probably applies to all Dads, but here are some great ideas to keep Dad’s belly full!

Go Out for Good Ice Cream

I say “good” because I don’t just mean your McDonald’s or Dairy Queen drive through ice cream. I mean the creamy, homemade, specialty flavors and dishes you can get at the family-owned ice cream shops locally. Here are some to check out:

Oser’s Dairy & Deli – Canal Fulton
Hartzler’s Family Ice Cream – Wooster
Handels Homemade Ice Cream – Medina (& other locations)
OH-YO Frozen Yogurt – Wooster (this isn’t ice cream, but still a delicious treat!)
Orr Valley Creamery – Orrville
Miller’s Creamery – Millersburg
Pav’s Creamery – Canton (ps. they have alcohol ice cream!)

Grill Up a Favorite Meal

Whether it’s a delicious porterhouse or a juicy brat, grill up Dad his favorite meal along with a good side dish to keep him full all evening! If you aren’t the best grill cook, head over to your favorite local restaurant and ask if they have any Father’s Day specials!

For the History Dad

Visit a Museum

If the Dad you’re celebrating always has Smithsonian or History channel on, this might be for him! There are small local museums you could make a day trip out of, or pick a big one with his favorite interests showcased. Consider the Air and Space Museum, Cleveland Natural History Museum, Dayton Air Museum, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Pro Football Hall of Fame, or Toledo Art Museum.

Visit a Historical Site

If you want to make a weekend out of Father’s Day, travel to a historical location like Williamsburg, Virginia or Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
Maybe a day trip would suit you better? Check out Ohio Caverns, Serpent Mounds, Fort Meigs Historic Site, Armstrong Air & Space Museum, or Sunwatch Indian Village.

For the Dad Who Loves Their Dad

Maybe Dad and his Dad could use some 1 on 1 time doing something together. Give him a free day to follow through on those plans they’ve been talking about forever!

For the Sports Lover

Are sports a big deal in your home? Then maybe your Dad could appreciate some of these gifts:

Tickets to a Baseball, Basketball or Football Game

Surprise Dad with tickets to see his favorite sports team!

A Round of Golf

Has it been a while since the bag of clubs in the closet has been used? Buy Dad a round of golf to get the dust off! Maybe even buy his Dad a round so they can make a day of it. Sometimes being on the green will take all the stress away!

For the Family Time Dad

Hopefully this is something all Dad’s will enjoy. Family time could look like having a campfire, family game night, or even just a good cookout with his dad. Sometimes Dads just enjoy some uninterrupted play time with the kids at the park where he can be a kid again. I don’t think you can go wrong with just planning some quality family time together!

Father’s Day Gifts and Activities

I know it can be hard finding the perfect thing for Dad on Father’s day, but love can be found in the smallest of gestures! Hopefully this list of Father’s Day Gifts and Activities will help you get some ideas to celebrate Dad in a meaningful way.
